This is another interesting article related to Indonesia's natural environment. It talks about a huge undersea volcano. In fact Indonesia is home to more volcanoes than any other country.

Indonesia Maintains Restrictions on Foreign Ownership
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/04/greathomesanddestinations/04iht-reindo.html?_r=1&ref=indonesia
This article discusses the issue of foriegn ownership in the Indonesian archipelago. At a recent meeting of real estate agents on the tourist island of Bali hope was expressed for opening the way for more liberal foreign ownership laws. Unfortunately for some, it seems that the status quo will remain.
Currently it is quite difficult for foreigners to but property in Indonesia. Consequently, this may be having a negative effect on foreign investment which is an important driver of economic growth in the archipelago.Other countries in the region such as Vietnam and Cambodia are benefiting from increased foreign invetsment which is a direct result of relaxed foreign ownership laws. As Indonesia is keen to increase its share of foreign investment, this kind of competition only serves to put pressure on those not wanting a change to current regulations.

Indonesian Celebrity Sex Scandal
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/world/asia_pacific/10531913.stm
This story is about a sex scandal which has caused great controversy in the world's largest muslim nation, which traditionally has conservative attitudes toward sexuality. The scandal involves pop star Ariel and TV presenter Luna Maya, who have been charged under the country's anti pornography laws. The affair has stimulated debate over regulation of the internet and attitudes to sex in this muslim country of over 200 million.
Indonesia is a morally conservative country and so this scandal has upset certain sections of society who fear a general degradation of morals in the country. In fact, many public demonstrations have broken out condeming the celebrities' actions as having a negative influence on the younger generation.
While many younger Indonesians are developing a more modern and relaxed stance toward morality, older Indonesians are eager to maintain a modern traditional and strict approach to morality.

Indonesia's Dying Glacier
http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5iJ2hxIiacaFlMUVf4WrW6AWCxpLw
This is an interesting article about the unfortunate but seemingly ineveitable disappearnce of an Indonesian glacier. Firstly, many of you as I was when I found this article may be surprised to know that South East Asia is home to glaciers. These are a natural feature not normally associated with warm tropical regions, which we normally associate with hot steamy jungles.
Scientists are hurrying to extract core samples from the glacier found on Punjak Jaya in the Papuan central highlands of eastern Indonesia. The study of glacier ice can tell us about climatic fluctuations in the past, which used in conjunction with samples from other parts of the world can help us better understand current climate changes.

World Cup Madness
http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/world/one-dead-in-world-cup-clash-in-indonesia-20100711-1051s.html
This article is about violence between rival World Cup football fans on the island of Maluku in Indonesia. According to the report, its not clear which teams the rival supporters were following. However, in the village where the dispute occured several houses were set ablaze.
This article reminds me of another similar incident but instead played out between rival European fans. In a bar in the German city of Hanover, a local got into an ugly debate with two Italian men over whose country had won more world cups. The German left the bar obviously fuming and returned soon after with a hand gun and shot the two foreigners in the head. One died instantly and the other in hospital soon after. For the record Italy have four world cups and Germany have three. http://www.corriere.it/International/english/articoli/2010/07/06/italians-murdered-hanover.shtml
