This is an interesting article about the unfortunate but seemingly ineveitable disappearnce of an Indonesian glacier. Firstly, many of you as I was when I found this article may be surprised to know that South East Asia is home to glaciers. These are a natural feature not normally associated with warm tropical regions, which we normally associate with hot steamy jungles.
Scientists are hurrying to extract core samples from the glacier found on Punjak Jaya in the Papuan central highlands of eastern Indonesia. The study of glacier ice can tell us about climatic fluctuations in the past, which used in conjunction with samples from other parts of the world can help us better understand current climate changes.
